WHITE LIE? Bullshit! That is one dark-as-coal-at-midnight lie. He planned to sandbag and undermine Conan from the get-go, for FIVE YEARS.
He is a bastard, through and through. If he didn't like the deal, he should have put up a fuss back then. Undermining Conan and screwing him over by moving to 10 was unethical no matter how you cut it. Reply

@SlickaNicka: I like how he appears to think this is perfectly rational behaviour. To agree to something while never intending to follow through, to publicly state it repeatedly, and then to later say that it doesn't really count because he never meant what he said anyhow.
I'll bet he was also that kid who screwed you over on the playground, then shrieked "I had my fingers crossed!" while running away. Reply

@SlickaNicka: How can he think that this makes him more sympathetic? Everyone involved would be better off if he'd just made a bigger deal of it at the time. Had he stood up for what he wanted at the time (five years ago) he wouldn't have dicked over Conan, or created a messy situation for the (idiotic) network. I bet he would also have more public sympathy if he'd handled it that way. The way he's behaved, he deserves to be painted as the villain.
Also, when is Oprah gonna have Conan on? Reply

@Samanthacy: Yeah, I'm coming to that conclusion pretty quickly. Everyone is kind of supposed to act and behave a certain way in adult society, Leno doesn't get a pass for a "white" lie (ha ha, that one is ridiculous). It's just so wrong on so many levels. Why not just state that you didn't want to leave 5 years ago?? It doesn't make sense. So manipulative.

@limber: I feel like the part that is skated over is the idea that, which his 10pm show being cancelled, he could've been the man and said, "No, I couldn't do that. Go out on top" and all that, but they asked him one afternoon if he wanted the show back, and that same afternoon it was his.
There are other comedians, is my point. (but of course, the failed 10pm show kind of made it so Leno had to go back, just to prove he 'still had it') Reply

@SlickaNicka: What interview were you watching exactly?
How could Leno have planned to "sandbag Conan for five years" if he wasn't offered the 10pm show until Fall 2008?
"Undermining Conan and screwing him over by moving to 10 was unethical no matter how you cut it."
So it's LENO'S fault that *NBC* offered Leno the 10pm slot. Leno accepting a job offer outside of the Tonight Show was COMPLETELY unethical. How dare Leno accept a job. The nerve of that man!
Got it.
.............. *tumbleweed*
And you DO understand that Leno would have very likely moved to another network had he not been offered a job at NBC.....right?
(and competing head-to-head against Conan at 11:35? Let's just say Conan didn't stand a chance @ #1)
I really wonder what planet some of you Conan fans live on... Reply
