Tonight, Stephen Colbert confirmed internet rumors—ones reported by the New York Times just last month, even—that one of last week's guests on The Colbert Report is in fact the second coming of a messiah for all mankind. Video Inside.
Last week, Colbert chatted with British author Raj Patel, who members of a new age religious sect called Share International believe to be the second coming of Maitreya, a messiah for all faiths. Though its been speculated that Mr. Patel is indeed Maitreya based on a series of cryptic identifying characteristics, Share International's leader Benjamin Creme declined to confirm or deny those reports. Until now, that is.

So, what's a cable talk show host supposed to do once he's become a vessel for spreading the word of a messiah? Bring him back on again, of course! And make him admit to being divine, no matter how many times he wants to deny it.
Unfortunately for Colbert—and, humanity I suppose?—this is not the first time that Share International has declared that a messiah walks among us. Proof that Patel might be the next in a series of messiah let-downs? He can't even get you out of a parking ticket.
