The Most Memorable Moments from the Oscars

Well, folks, there you have it! The 82nd Annual Academy awards are history, and what a night it was. Inside, your Oscars wrap-up: video and pictures of the moments everyone will be talking about tomorrow, and a complete winners list.

A list of tonight's winners is at the bottom of this post. But first, my completely subjective—though hopefully acceptable—list of the most water cooler-worthy moments of the evening.

Precious Workin' It to Open the Show

Tonight's show opened with an introduction of the 10 nominated actors and actresses in the leading role categories. Not content with the textbook smile and nod, Gabourey Sidibe went all diva on us and did a couple moves for the camera.

Basterds and Jews

Hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin had fun with their monologue dialogue, interacting with the audience of A-Listers and poking fun at the nominated films. But it was this joke—in which Martin mentioned that Christoph Waltz's Inglorious Basterds character was "a Nazi obsessed with finding Jews" before gesturing to the audience full of the aforementioned—that really got things going.

Honoring the Departed

The Oscars telecast included a heartwarming tribute to the late director John Hughes, complete with a sign-off by some of the actors who had worked with him over the years.

James Taylor also performed during the annual "In Memoriam" segment later on in the show.

Conspicuously absent from the montage? Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur (which led to outrage on Twitter).

Crazy Purple Kanye Lady

After Music By Prudence won the award for Documentary Short, its producer, Roger Ross Williams, began to give his acceptance speech—only to be interrupted by a crazy woman in a purple dress/jacket/something. It turns out the woman was Elinor Burkett, a co-producer, but it didn't make her sudden appearance at the mic any less awkward (or hilarious).

Update: It turns out that Williams and Burkett had been embroiled in a feud over the film, and tonight's mic-jacking was most definitely NOT planned or amicable. [Click here] for the full story, courtesly Salon.com.

Ben Stiller Is a Na'vi Prince

Even though the film was not even nominated in the category, Ben Stiller presented the Oscar for Best Makeup in full Avatar garb, and secured his place as the requisite king of awards show cameos.

George Clooney's Face

George Clooney either was drunk, didn't give an eff, or both. Here is one example.

And another.

Mo'Nique and Mr. Jackson

Mo'Nique once again got Emo'Tional after she won the Oscar for Supporting Actress and delivered a touching acceptance speech.

Afterward, Samuel L. Jackson gave face, honey.

Did Sandra Bullock Diss Meryl Streep?

Earlier tonight during E!'s Live from the Red Carpet, Meryl Streep laid the smack down on Ryan Seacrest for what she called "cheerleading" for Sandra Bullock to win Best Actress. And then, Bullock won. And then, it looked like she may have dissed Streep—and her attempted hug—as she made her way up to the podium? You be the judge.

Diss or no diss, the incident did provide the following screengrab, and that's good enough for me.

Tom Hanks Wastes No Time

Surprise: the show went long! And apparently, Tom Hanks' remedy for that was to announce the winner for Best Picture without even bothering to read the list of nominees (yes, I know that they were all introduced individually throughout the telecast, but—in the past—the presenters have also gone over the list one last time before the big reveal).

The Queen of the World and Her Two Hangers-On

This is how the 82nd Annual Academy Awards ended.

Well, that's it! I hope you enjoyed my little list.
